Tests for positive ions

Positively charged ions are called cations, almost always metal ions except for H+ and NH4+. In this video, we look at two types of tests that can be used to identify a variety of different metal ions (cations): flame tests; and the addition of aqueous sodium hydroxide. The┬ámaterial covered in this video is also relevant to the core activity for this topic, which is covered in more detail in the next video “Tests for negative ions”.
