Irradiation and radioactive contamination

Description

The potential for radioactive contamination is one of the main reasons why some people are opposed to the use of nuclear power – disposing appropriately of the radioactive waste generated is indeed far from simple – but contamination can originate from other sources too.  In this video, we’ll look at what contamination is and the factors which affect the seriousness of a given contamination.

We’ll then go on to look at the irradiation of an object (that is, exposing it to ionising radiation) and the uses to which irradiation can be put when performed correctly.
